This was my 9th stay at the Tryp. It is a lovely hote. The staff, no matter what their position within the hotel, are friendly and courteous. They are always happy to see me return. I look forward to another visit to the Tryp in August 2008.
Thank you all for a restful and relaxing holiday!!!

This was our second trip back to the Tryp Hotel. If you can get a good price for an oceanview room with a balcony at this resort I am sure you will be very pleased with what you get. The food in the a la carte restaurants was excellent. The buffet has a good selection, however it can be a little repetitive. The pizza hut and the grill serve up a mean lunch and the drinks there are pretty good too. It is the only resort on the island which has a flamingo sanctuary. Save some crackers and feed the flamingos. They will come right up to you. The beach is very nice however you do have to go down and put your towels on the chairs early in the morning to reserve them. The staff is very friendly and courteous, however they do things much slower than we are used to, just remember you are in Cuba not Canada. We would recommend the Tryp Hotel. Please See the Photos we took.

My wife and I are experienced travellers and have been to Cuba a number of times, so read this review with that in mind. We are both between 40 and 50 years of age. We read the reviews of the property done mostly by 20 to 30 year old couples. In most respects they did not match our experience.
Simply put, we did not get what we paid for. We booked the "AI superior ocean view plus room with a VIP pkg.". The room we were given faced the balconies of the building next to us as opposed to an ocean view. If you extended your neck over the balcony and peered in the direction of the ocean and if the vegetation was moved by the wind sufficiently you could get a glimpse of the ocean. I approached "Guest Services" who should be called "Guest Dis-Services" with the problem. They very rudely denied we had booked a superior ocean view and as such that was the room we would get. At that point they did not even know my name or what room I was actually in. I reconfirmed politely but firmly that we had booked as above and was then addressed by another person in "Guest Services" who also was rude and denied we had booked as above. I then suggested I return with my confirmation receipt, at which point she placed a phone call. At the conclusion of which she simply stated there had been a mistake and the front desk had not read the booking properly. I was then referred to the front desk to speak to a gentleman who was to resolve the situation. He was very professional and polite. He advised me another room (which he assured me would be an excellent room) but it would not be available until 6:00 p.m. as there were still guests in that room. I replied that was no problem and that my wife and I would check back at that time to obtain the key and view the room.
In the interim, I spoke to the tour company rep. who advised me that room had no better view than the one we were in and that I should go back to them. I thought that was his job and at this point, I was in no mood to return to either the front desk or "Guest Services". Ultimately as it turned out, the room we were offered had an even less desirable view of the Ocean and was situated beside a lagoon and what appeared to be a sewage treatment plant. The tour company rep. was not helpful in resolving this problem. When I spoke to him a second time he changed his view completely. My wife and I then concluded we were not going to get anywhere with the staff. We chose to make the best of it and to take the matter up on our return. I am awaiting a response from the tour operator
There are a number of other complaints regarding rudeness of staff, dirty dishes, mildew in the mattress and pillows etc. . I strongly echo the sentiments expressed by some that if you do not tip the bar staff you will be rudely ignored. Fortunately for us both, we are very light drinkers but we did occasionally want a soft drink. Be very careful with glasses and dishes they are not cleaned properly. This is particularly so at the bar.
We were however very impressed by the work carried out on the grounds and particularly the cleaning of our room. The room maid understandably was in no position to do anything about the mildew and the bedding.
A big part of the problem is that this facility is too large and is overcrowded. All in all, I could not in any way recommend this property. Hope this is helpful.

I just got back from Tryp Cayo Coco and the beach was beautiful. You had to get there very early (7-8am) to get a chair becuase people left their towels overnight. It was windy 90% of the time so bring a track suit or jeans and a long sleeve shirt for the evening.
The buffet was cold even when the food was suppose to be hot. The pizza place on the beach was decent, definatley try it at lunch. The International restaurant was good and Casa Cubana was alright. Unlike the Dominican they don't make the drinks from real fruit its all syrup, which is disappointing. You were excepted to tip at every meal. It was annoying and the service wasn't better the next day if you did.
The rooms were alright, it had a bed and shower... what else do you need.
One huge problem was the water, they didn't supply you with bottled water daily, you received one bottle @ arrival then you either drink from the tap or buy bottles @ the store.
The entertainment was okay, the shows were missing imagination. The animators were nice. Ubaldo, the guitarist, was very nice and entertaining, he made a point to speak with everyone. The disco plays mostly international music so if you're looking for salsa go to the Salsa Teca on another resort, they provide transportation.
The crowd is a good mix, families, single (18 to about 29) and some older.

2 of my friends and I spent a week at the hotel tryp and we loved it!! the weather was beautiful the ocean was calm and clear and there was never a dull day!! we went on the glass bottom bost which i highly recommend and we also went snorkelling which was just amazing!! Tip: if you go snorkelling bring a few bananas from the snack bar to feed the fish also if you are a strong swimmer the guide may take you out alone to see a some cool stuff!
I would totally stay there again it was all we wanted and more the nightly entertainment was fun and the staff were very friendly and helpful!!
