  "Really enjoyed Sol Cayo Coco"

Anónimo, GB, 2007-06-20
Was nervous about some of the reviews I read before going, but have to say that my husband, son and myself all had a fabulous time at this hotel. We really enjoyed the food, no complaints, and didn't hear of anyone have dodgy tummys etc which is a bonus when travelling a bit further afield.

The beaches were beautiful, and Cayo Coco is quite unique in that it is purely a tourist island with no local life, so well worth signing up for some tours to see the real Cuba.

Hotel staff were all extremely friendly, whether you tipped or not. This meant we were more than happy to tip regularly. I had read on trip advisor to take certain items, one of which was gardening gloves. My husband said that the gardeners couldn't thank him enough.

We did the Havanna day trip - which was well worth doing. The speedboats which was excellent, and Colourful Cuba trip which couldn't have packed more in if they tried, but was brilliant for a real overview. The best thing about all the trips was the information you got from the guides regarding their day to day lives and also their history.

Only thing I was disappointed with was the kids club - staff didn't appear too interested in the children and activities weren't very exciting - my son didn't bother to go. One day they organised some activities for children by the pool, would have been great if they could have done that every day.

In summary I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Cuba or the hotel Sol Cayo Coco but would urge people to remember that you are in a poorer country and you cannot expect the same standard of hotel. The room was spotless but could have done with a paint. Bit damp because of the humidity, some people had problems with bad damp smells but were swopped rooms as soon as they complained.

I would return without hesitation.

"AMAZING TIME @ SOL cayo coco!!!!!!!!"

Anónimo, CA, 2007-06-20
first off, i would like to say it was my first time to da caribean. I(25) booked this trip with my mother(50), and we felt very safe in cuba and on our site
(specially my mum was worry for me returnin' late nights from the disco by myself) I never felt unsafe. Pretty much secure. I wouldnt never hesitate to go by myself.
Room: Our room was clean,no bad smell, we were stayin on da 2nd floor, view from the sea, beautiful!!! Only thing, my curling iron, straightener wouldnt work, becoz the plug were different.and that suck, couldnt do my hair!!!! The towels were change everyday

Beach:The water was amazing, really clear, nice shade of colors. Lots of jelly fish, but they are not dangerous. I even got to touch them.
It was really windy on the first 2 days, We couldnt go to the beach & swim, there was a red flag, and the beach grill was close due to the windy days.

Staff:The staff was great. Very polite, we had good service. If u get a chance to meet Maileyn she sooo adorable,I miss her alot!!!! she work at the deskfront where there internet. We met alot of friendly peoples (canadians & britains, and it felt good to be away from the Americans) for your maid, tip them and they appreciate every little gifts, like baby clothes, makeup, paper, pencils. I even give some of my dress , they're were soooo grateful!!

Activity & things to do:The shows at nights (9:30-10:30pm) were very good, great dancers & the show were differents everynights.entertaining!! After i will go to da disco everynights until 2 oclock. Good music. If you like to go clubbin' I'd recommended u to take the train (3 pesos) and go to la CUEVA(the cave)10 pesos to get in. it amazing!!! IT's in a Cave!!! it 20 min train from the Sol. The train pick you up on wednesday night at 11:00pm in the lobby. come back at 1am or 2am.
We took the trip to visit Moron , Ciego de avila. I recommend it, if u really wanna see, hows the real cuban life, culture, it just not about the beautiful beaches of this communist country!! I was great to get to see the real thing. Please bring some candy for tha kids, you'll put some big smile in theirs faces. they appreciated every little things u can give to them.
The glass boat (20 pesos)it great , bring bread to feed hundred of fishes, dunt forget to bring ur camera waterproof for that!

My opinion: From what ive heard this hotel is defenetly not a **** but the staff and the place, make it all worth it. I would defenetly go back to Sol cayo coco. I miss yall over there!!!!! And u have to remember that you're in a poor country , and u CAN'T expect to be served like the **** Cesar's Palace in Vegas, comon'''' for those people that like 2 complain.

  Great Honeymoon

Anónimo, CA, 2005-04-21
I know this is a little late to write a review but I felt I had to write it, considering the great service we received.

We went for 1 week for our honeymoon. The flight left from Montreal in the afternoon and got to Cayo Coco at around 7pm. Lineups at the airport were not too long and the transport to the hotel was quite fast. The Cayo Coco region is surrounded by a tropical jungle and beautiful gardens, and near the airport mosquitoes tend to come out at night. However, in the hotel and on the beach we didn't find this to be a problem. Just in case, bring some repellent for your arrival at the airport.

Check-in was quite fast. We had requested the honeymoon service so they gave us a beautiful room with a balcony facing the garden and the turquoise ocean. The room was fairly big, clean, included a safe (very important). The service was always great. We were surprised to find a basket of fresh fruit, a bottle of ice cold sparkling wine on our bed, as a honeymoon gift. The hotel also handed us 2 invitations for the great A la Carte restaurant (hard to make reservations apparently); and also an invitation for a traditional Afro-Cuban wedding ritual. This was very interesting and fun at the same time.

The service was always great. Cubans are great hard-working people. It's always good to know some Spanish too, that makes a slight advantage, we found; but don't worry, everyone speaks English too.

We can't complain about the food. I mean, this is Cuba and they offer good stuff considering the circumstances. There was a main buffet restaurant with a good combination everyday. The Cuban restaurant which offered good traditional food and the A La Carte restaurant, offering a very nice and posh environment. The "lobster grille" is by far the best lobster I've ever tried. Finally there's the pool snack-bar, offering traditional Cuban sandwiches (ham and cheese) as well as pizzas, burgers, fries, etc.

The pool was really nice too, clean and had a nice bridge which cut it into 2 different sections.

The beach is amazing. White fine sand and extremely clear / turquoise waters. Palm trees adorn the coast along the beach making it a paradise on earth. Chairs were available all the time and towels were free.

Entretainment: There was a show everynight which was good, with lots of dancing and music. We were also lucky to have the most popular club in our hotel complex. Tourists from all other hotels came into our hotel for the club at night. The music was a mix of Cuban salsa, Latin and Hip Hop.

Tips: Try to rent a scooter and drive around the Cayo. Go to La Cueva del Jabali, a local club/bar with an authentic Cuban flavour. Go to Playa Pilar (the most amazing beach) and to Cayo Guillermo, you can use the facilities at the Sol Club Cayo Guillermo.
Cayo Coco is a very nice beach to relax and enjoy the sun and the beach. We also did the snorkleing activity which was beautiful. If you're looking for a relaxing vacation away from the noisy resorts, Sol Cayo Coco is the place to go. We loved it and are planning on going back soon.
